This blog post is by one of newest K9 Natural team members, Mike Wilson.
Looking back on the first 6 months working at K9 Natural there are a couple of things it is impossible to deny; the people working here are passionate about this company and our customers are loyal to K9 Natural like no other company I have been involved with. For someone on the outside I guess it is difficult to understand. I mean we can all relate with being passionate about our favourite sports team or American Idol contestant, but dog food!? It seems a little unusual doesn’t it? Well not really when you think about it. Dogs don’t get the nickname ‘man’s best friend’ for any reason. We love our dogs like family, they are family. And if you found something that made someone that you love healthier and happier, it would be difficult not to appreciate wouldn’t it?
But a dog food shouldn’t be something that can do all these things for man’s best friend should it??? It’s hard to believe when you see TV ads of dogs prancing around in long grass with happy music in the background, but it has been said that diet contributes to most of the top 10 reasons people take their dogs to the vet. That being said, surely K9 Natural can’t be the only dog food out there to keep dog’s healthy can it? “No is the answer, it’s not even the best food for your dog.” That was what the founder of K9 told me when I first started, in fact he goes around the world telling people that K9 Natural isn’t the best food for dogs (how about that for the world’s worst sales line?). But it isn’t practical or ethical to put a rabbit in a bag and sell it so we produce K9 Natural and try to get as close as possible to what nature intended dogs to be eating.
It just seems bizarre that we hear from customers daily that they have been looking for a food like this for years (I didn’t believe them until I sat in the office and heard it for myself) yet all we are doing is making a food that dogs are genetically designed to eat. It hardly seems like rocket science; dog descended from wolf, DNA proves dog is 99.8% wolf, entire digestive system is same as wolf, wolf eats raw meat, dog eats raw meat. Then why do so many people feed dogs cooked biscuits? How did we get here? I don’t know and that is why I am writing this series of blogs, I want to find out why on earth so many people feed their carnivores cooked biscuits. That one question alone should get any caring dog owner thinking, why would I feel my carnivore COOKED BISCUITS? This is not an attack on those who feed their dogs cooked food, just finding out why it is an option.
I don’t know how many blogs it will take me to get through but there is one thing I can guarantee, it won’t be a professional or scientific investigation. It will be in layman’s terms because that’s what I am, a layman when it comes to knowledge about a dogs nutritional requirements. I can get K9 Natural to all corners of the globe with no issues but when it comes to the percentage of protein required in a dog’s diet, I leave that to others in the company to handle. That doesn’t mean I am not interested as hell in why people are so passionate about a company that makes food that dog food…

well, my excuse for feeding kibbles is that I was lazy and it was easy. I stoped with both reasons two years ago and never regret my decision for a minute!
We adopted our puppy from a pet store that REQUIRED us to feed a particular brand of kibble for the 3 months insurance they offered, in the hopes we’d get hooked on it. Els Desart at Trainimals put us straight and now our two Daschunds are happier than ever – glossy, bright-eyed, full of energy and very, very happy at mealtimes!!
Misperception, misinformation, lack of knowledge, ignorance, and convenience to name a few. Education is essential to discourage the feeding of “cooked biscuits.”
